And the Sarah Palin Story of the Day Is….
She didn’t really interview Toby Keith for her show.
All-American country star Toby Keith, who was billed as giving an interview for Sarah Palin’s American Stories, wasn’t actually interviewed by the ex-governor. Elaine Schock, a spokeswoman for Keith, said the interview dated from early 2009 and that Keith had no idea it was going to run on the show.
Keith is the second star to say that he was surprised to learn he was on the show, which airs Thursday night on Fox News at 1 a.m. Eastern time and 10 p.m. Pacific time. On Wednesday, the network pulled an interview with LL Cool J from American Stories after he said the footage was a couple of years old and tweeted that Fox was “misrepresenting to the public in order to promote Sarah Palins Show. WOW.”
The reaction from Keith’s camp wasn’t quite as strong, with Schock saying, “I don’t have a problem that it’s airing. I’m concerned they didn’t call me. We would like to have known.” Fox said they’d sent Schock an email notifying her earlier this week, but she said she didn’t get it. The Los Angeles Times said it had seen a copy of the email.
Keith’s segment will focus on his hit “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)”, a song that pledges military retaliation against terrorists and contains the well-known lines: “Cause we’ll put a boot in your ass/It’s the American way.”
There’s been no comment so far from former GE chairman Jack Welch, who was billed as the third celebrity guest on the show. (Los Angeles Times)
