Behind the Scenes at the TV Land Awards
Gossip Betty goes backstage with Matthew McConaughey, Amy Poehler, Julia Louis Dreyfus and many more!
The TV Land Awards were taped this weekend and will air on TV Land next Sunday, April 26, at 8 P.M. I had the opportunity to spend a little time with the stars in Hollywood, and here is a preview to get you ready for the show!
Matthew McConaughey arrived well before the show and hung out in the green room, shooting the breeze with Will Ferrell. His signature saying, “all right, all right,” slipped past his lips at least three times while he and Will joked about how casually they were dressed. Matthew in faded jeans and workman boots and Will in a T-shirt, shorts and sneakers.
Tim Allen, being honored for Home Improvement, arrived with his gorgeous wife, Jane Hajduk. The couple just welcomed their first child together, a baby girl, three weeks ago. Jane, with no baby weight in sight, looked stunning in a tiny gray and black Herve Leger dress and Tim told me, “This is how my day started–talking to the nanny and making sure the baby was all set. Then Jane slipped into this, and I can’t even compete. She looks fantastic tonight!”
Julia Louis Dreyfus confessed, “I watch other comediennes all the time–we are all friends, and we are all funny!”
The green room was where the funny was–Jimmy Kimmel arrived early to bond with McConaughey and Ferrell before he hit the stage. Nearby, Jamie Lee Curtis hitched a tool belt over her designer cocktail dress for her spotlight moment. Forever funnyman Don Rickles pretended to text message on his Blackberry. Amy Poehler loaded change into the pockets of her dress for later laughs onstage.
Christina Applegate sat with her Married with Children TV family, but the actress has a gorgeous new beau in her life who kept her distracted throughout the show. Christina’s cute blonde boyfriend held her hand throughout the show and whispered in her ear romantically.
Charlie Sheen was the very last celebrity to arrive, about 30 minutes into the show, but he gets a free pass since he has newborn twin sons at home with his wife, Brooke. Charlie joined his Two and a Half Men table to sit with co-star, Jon Cryer.
Teri Hatcher honored the men of Two and a Half Men in a slinky Donna Karan dress, covered in Piaget jewels. The youngest star of the show, Angus T. Jones, 15, was so fresh from the Coachella music festival in Southern California that he said he was too tired to do interviews and he shied away from every TV camera.
Later in the show, Martin Sheen arrived to make it a family affair in support of his son Charlie as well as his good friend, Alan Alda, who was being honored for his role in M*A*S*H*. Alan was happy to reunite with his old cast, but says, “Most of us have actually stayed in touch over the years. Any chance we get to speak or see each other, we take it.”
Reba McEntire, Cyndi Lauper and Clint Black joined the TV ranks to honor their favorite television stars of the past.
The host of the evening, Neil Patrick Harris, was excited and very nervous before the show began, hinting that he really didn’t see himself as a comedian. His song-and-dance numbers throughout the awards prove how wrong he is–the show is fun and entertaining with a surprise musical guest to close the show. You will love seeing all your favorite stars from Magnum P.I. to Knots Landing and all the shows that came before and after them! It wouldn’t be the TV Land Awards without a cameo by Greg Brady, so look out for Barry Williams in costume.
