Best Dressed at the Oscars Retrospective
These gowns are so gorgeous, we just had to bring this list of the best dressed of the decade back. These 10 standout dresses from the past decade are worthy of their own golden statue.
For Hollywood’s biggest night, stars pick the most dazzling dresses they can find — and there’s no room for a fashion faux pas at the Academy Awards (although, some actresses still forget this — think Bjork’s swan outfit). No doubt we will see plenty of beautiful gowns on the red carpet this Sunday, February 27 (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on ABC). But, before we induct this year’s nominees into the best-dressed hall of fame, let’s review who has truly amazed — and inspired — us with their couture choices over the past 10 years
It has become an instantly recognizable image – Julia Roberts accepting her Oscar in 2001 for Erin Brockovich in this black vintage Valentino gown with white piping. It was as if the Pretty Woman was back, wearing the classiest dress a girl could find for the big night. “The huge impact that Julia made in my vintage dress will never happen again,” says the designer.
Who can forget this gorgeous embroidered burgundy Elie Saab dress Halle Berry wore in 2002? Sure, she was sobbing onstage while accepting her award for best actress in a leading role for Monster’s Ball, but her tears didn’t take away from how beautiful she looked.
