Jon & Kate Ratings Declining
Despite the recent news-grabbing tabloid headlines, this may be the last season for Jon & Kate Plus 8, not only because of the couple’s impending divorce but also because of the show’s sinking ratings.
The TLC reality show only drew 3 million viewers on Monday night, down half a million from last Monday’s show, and a third of the 10.6 million viewers who tuned in June 22, when the couple announced their split.
Kate recently said on a talk show that she hoped to film more episodes with Jon, and experts are predicting that a reconciliation may be the only way the show can survive.
“I don’t know if the show can make that new transition [from two parents raising eight kids to one parent raising the children],” said Robert J. Thompson, founding director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture at Syracuse University. “It’s like if The Cosby Show, mid-season, suddenly became Married With Children.” (US Magazine)
