Laura Bright Brooks, marketing team manager at the Whole Foods in Birmingham, Alabama, saw our article and e-mailed to let us know just how right we were. “This guy came to our store and went to our cheese department and told one of the guys, ‘I want to propose to my girlfriend here’,” she explained when we called to get the deets.

“They had met at the Whole Foods in New Orleans a few years earlier,” she told us. He thought it would be romantic to go back to the part of the store where they’d first cast eyes on each other-the cheese department! Au fromage!

“He asked us to hold the ring overnight,” Bright Brooks laughed. Naturally the store wouldn’t do that, but they did help the guy out. “They were going to come in the next night for dinner and then wander into the cheese department where he’d propose.” The entire store got into the spirit. “We got a bottle of champagne and made a little cheese sign that said, ‘Will you marry me?'”

As the two made their way to the cheese section, everyone took their places. At first, his intended didn’t notice anything different lurking amongst the piave and camembert. “Finally, he pointed to the sign and got down on one knee and proposed,” Bright Brooks said.
Luckily, she said yes and the two are currently planning their wedding.

See? Whole lotta love happening at Whole Foods!
