1. Belted Dresses and Wide Waist Belts

belted dress trend

One of the hottest and most popular trends on the Spring 2010 runways: everyone from Carolina Herrera to Victoria Beckham to Marc Jacobs cinched up fabulous dresses and outfits with wide waist belts.

beltDIY: Pair a regular work dress with an inexpensive wide waist belt in a contrasting color, or throw one in a neutral black or brown over a tank and cardigan to accentuate your cute little waist. Great picks for right now: wide equestrian belt ($60, bananarepublic.com); Ralph by Ralph Lauren wide black croc-embossed belt (shown here, $74, macys.com); wide black belt with three buckles and elastic ($8.80, forever21.com).

2. Bold Prints

According to the design houses we love, Spring/Summer 2010 will be all about bold prints. We saw them on matching piece suits, dresses, and separates from Anna Sui, Zac Posen, and Diane Von Furstenberg, among others. No wallflowers or shrinking violets here!

urban outfitters dressDIY: For fall, wear one print-crazy piece from your summer wardrobe (in season-appropriate patterns – no sunflowers, ladies), like a bold blue or green dress, and pair it with a clean neutral-colored blazer and tights or stockings to keep your legs warm.

We love: Kimchi Blue Origami dress (shown here, $58, urbanoutfitters.com); Moulinette Black & Bright dress ($168, anthropologie.com); “I Heart Ronson” belted blouse ($44, jcpenny.com).

3. Off the Shoulder Tops and Dresses

off the shoulder Spring 2010 trend

Collar bones were sneaking out of shirts again this year thanks to off the shoulder dresses and blouses. Gwen Stefani played with the look in her L.A.M.B. collection, as did Jason Wu and BCBG Max Azria.

one shoulder blouseDIY: In the fall, your shoulders might be shivering if they’re not covered, but there’s no reason you shouldn’t rock this look once indoors. For a shirt to wear out on the town, have one of your favorite tops tailored for a one shoulder look and pair it with jeans and heels. Great picks right now: one shoulder Bubble Top (shown here, $19.99, charlotterusse.com); 3 in 1 cowl neck sweater ($34.50, express.com); Kensie off-the-shoulder Country dress ($118, macys.com).
