Celebrity Trend: Better As a Brunette?
These stars have gone over to the dark side. Here’s some tips on how you can change your hair color, too.
What’s the point of making a change unless it’s a dramatic one, right? That seems to be the philosophy of celebrities like Katherine Heigl, Hayden Panettiere, Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Richie, who have radically changed their look by becoming a brunette.
“A lot of celebrities have been in the blond hair rut and they’re looking for something drastically different that will turn heads — and they want an instant result,” says clinical psychologist Maryann Troiani, co-author with Michael Mercer of Change Your Underwear, Change Your Life: Quick & Easy Ways to Make Your Life Fun, Exciting and Vibrant. “Going dark is a really good way to do that. Also, changing your hair color is an instant mood booster.”
For some of these celebs, such as Lindsay, who never sticks with one shade for long, the color change is to be expected, while for others, the new ‘do can render them practically unrecognizable. “Hayden almost looks like a different person and the color is too harsh and solid,” says Carrie McCard, colorist at Rita Hazan Salon in Manhattan. “The color is also dramatic on Katherine Heigl because it draws out her brown eyes. She looks softer as a blond, while Nicole Richie looks good both ways — as a brunette and a blond.”
