How to Decorate a Holiday Dinner Table with Style

Dear Francine: What’s easy (and inexpensive) way to decorate a holiday dinner table?
Francine: I’ve got three suggestions for simple holiday table decorations:
1. Bring the Christmas tree trimmings to the table! Set your favorite ornaments into a large glass bowl at the center of the table, or arrange them on a bed of tinsel or garland.
2. Gingerbread House deconstructed. Who has time to bake and decorate a gingerbread house?! Instead, put all those pretty holiday candies in a glass bowl. Candy make a gorgeous centerpiece … and after dinner, it’s dessert too!
3. Edible centerpieces. Instead of expensive flowers, make a fruit arrangement. Cluster pears and lady apples in the center of the table and garnish them with scattered dried cranberries. Use any fruit you can find this time of year…clementines and pomegranates make a nice combo too.
Nuts also make a great centerpiece. Arrange all sorts of whole nuts in their shells onto a long platter. Decorate the platter with pretty nutcrackers and dried bay leaves (you can stick them back into the spice jar once company leaves).
