Betty on the News: Egypt Wants to Ban Fake Virginity Kit
Lawmakers in the conservative country consider a ban on a product that is said to help women fake their virginity

Officials in Egypt are in an uproar and contemplating a ban on a Chinese-imported product that helps women fake their virginity. The Artificial Virginity Hymen Kit is said to help newly married women trick their husbands into thinking they’re still virgins by providing a product that leaks a blood-like substance when inserted and broken, much like a hymen.
The product is being specifically marketed to Muslim countries, such as Egypt, where premaritial sex is considered taboo and many conservative lawmakers fear that it may encourage more women to have sex. One prominent Egyptian religious scholar, Abdel Moati Bayoumi, said that anyone who imports the artificial hymen into the country should be punished and exiled. (Huffington Post)
