Daily Dish: Ellen DeGeneres Defends Idol Judging Skills
The hilarious host is confident that she will make an excellent judge
While Simon Cowell feels that replacing Paula Abdul with Ellen DeGeneres on this season’s American Idol is a recipe for disaster, the talk show host herself wants fans to know that she will make an excellent judge, despite the current criticism.
“Apparently, there’s a lot of debate going on right now whether I’m qualified or not to be the new judge on American Idol,” DeGeneres said on Tuesday. “… I know there is a lot of chatter. I’ll tell you right now, how I know I’m going to be a great judge … I’ve spent my whole life being judged. So I know what it’s like.”
The openly-gay comedian went on to explain how her own life experiences have turned her into a much more compassionate person, and therefore she will be honest but kind in her evaluations.
“I thought America had moved past this,” Ellen mused. “First, we have the first African American President. We’ve sworn in our first Hispanic Supreme Court Justice. I think American Idol is ready for their first blonde judge … I do.”
We’re certainly ready! Although we are still a little sore over Paula’s departure. (Usmagazine.com)
