Daily Dish: Elton John Wants to Adopt
Elton John and partner, David Furnish, want to adopt Ukranian baby, Lev
A celebrity adopting a foreign baby, how original! Music legend Elton John and his husband, David Furnish, are making plans to adopt baby Lev, a toddler they met while doing an orphanage tour in Ukraine, where Elton was performing for his Elton John’s AIDS Foundation.
Elton told reporters, “David always wanted to adopt a child and I always said ‘no’ because I am 62 and I think because of the traveling I do and the life I have, maybe it wouldn’t be fair for the child.”
But, when Elton came across Lev, an orphan whose parents had died from AIDS, his heart melted and his mind changed.
“But having seen Lev today, I would love to adopt him,” he says. “I don’t know how we do that but he has stolen my heart. And he has stolen David’s heart and it would be wonderful if we can have a home. I’ve changed my mind today.”
Elton’s change of heart is also a result of losing his friend and keyboardist, Guy Babylon, last week. “What better opportunity to replace someone I lost than to replace him with someone I can give a future to.”
That sounds like an adoption for the right reasons to us. We’d love to see a Ukranian baby Elton John! (NY Daily News)
