Jennifer Lopez: Being a Mommy and a Movie Star Is Hard
The star of ‘The Back-Up Plan’ on her new movie, her bedroom secrets, and what her twins think when Mommy does “major hair!”
She never had a back-up plan.
Jennifer Lopez says that unlike the character in her new film The Back-Up Plan, she would have never opted for single motherhood and no man on the pillow next to her.
“If I hadn’t met Marc, I wouldn’t have done the single motherhood,” says the gorgeous J Lo who holds court in her suite at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills. “It’s just so hard. That’s why I have so much respect for single moms. It’s so courageous to me. Being a mother is such a hard job and to be everything to your child without a partner is beyond brave and every other valiant word I could ever dream up.”
“I couldn’t do it on my own,” says the mama of 2-year-old twins Max and Emme with musicman husband Mark Anthony. She cries, “I could barely leave the house this morning for this interview without missing them so much.”
With her hair in a pony tail and wearing a beige t-shirt dress with a form-fitting beige sweater jacket — plus diamond earrings and gold, sky blue and pink bangle bracelets — J Lo sat down to talk movies and mommyhood.
Is it hard to mix motherhood and movie-stardom?
It’s very hard. My children are 2 and just at the point where the second day of this junket they knew what was going on. Mommy was getting dressed up. They came to the door and started saying, “No, Mommy, no, Mommy don’t go.” I thought, “Ohhhhh, this is bad. This is tough.” But I’m going to have to figure this out as I go along. I know tonight I will be home and the sun will be up. So that’s the good news. I won’t miss the whole day.
What did you think when you found out you were having twins?
Oh, when I found out that I was having twins, I was in denial. I couldn’t even believe I was pregnant. When I found out it was twins, I laughed and said, “Of course, this would happen.” I actually started giggling. But Marc… oh Marc. He started crying. He is so beautiful and emotional. Inside I felt, “I can’t believe this is happening. It’s too wonderful.”
Tell us about your twins.
They’re so pleasant and happy. They have a lot of love in their lives. They’re very content children and can express so many things. But they do know when Mommy puts on makeup and does major hair that, “Uh oh, she’s going someplace.”
