Week Three of Dancing with the Stars … At this point you know if you like your partner or not, you know if you suck or not, and you realize that it’s not all fun and games (unless you’re Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger). And most of all, the contest’s novelty has worn off. It’s really hard.
My all-time favorite moment on the show tonight (and maybe in DWTS history): Louis Van Amstel and Niecy Nash talking about the right to be married. It wasn’t about black or white, they just let the gay rights issue come up and Louis got to speak his mind. Louis, I love you for that, and I applaud DWTS for not editing it out.
So I’ve said the show is hard! But a few broken toes couldn’t even stop Evan Lysacek! BROKEN TOES? Go Brooke Burke for helping him get the message out. “I broke my toes – that’s what happens when you try new things,” laughed Evan. No, Evan, that’s not what happens!
OH WAIT – I must address the night’s opening pro-dancer number. I loved seeing the pros that we wish were in this season. After 10 seasons, even my dog would know a quick step if he saw one and, speaking of quick steps, I normally find them boring. That and the Rumba is usually the kiss of death, but Evan and his broken toes were great, and the song was one of the best quick dance songs I’ve heard in a while.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, there’s Jake Pavelka and his weird “Walk like an Egyptian” thing. Oy! He didn’t dance for over four counts of eight! You can’t just stand around looking for your dance partner. Even ladylove Vienna looked bored.
