Fort Hood Unit Deploys Despite Losses
The unit deployed as originally intended Friday.
Over 40 Army reservists devoted to counseling distressed soldiers in war zones deployed to Afghanistan Friday, just one month after the massacre at Fort Hood killed several of their friends.
Soldiers from the Wisconsin-based 467th Medical Detachment made it to Fort Hood chapel shortly before dawn. Minutes later the troops boarded a bus which took them to the airport, and from there they headed to Afghanistan.
“I think they decided that same day (of the shooting) that they were more dedicated than ever in honor of the soldiers that we lost and have stood firm in that commitment,” Maj. Laura Suttinger of Fort Atkinson, Wis., said Thursday. “They were all very dedicated, caring soldiers and they will not be forgotten, and we’re carrying on in their honor.” (Yahoo)
