Get A New Look for Fall
5 beauty tips and switches
-Lois Joy Johnson
Unless you are Kate Moss and then you get a free pass to do whatever you want, fall is an opportunity to upgrade and update your look. Last night I went to the theatre and sitting next to me was a woman around 32. She wore a very short draped black dress, orange Prada-ish platform pumps, her own skintone, a brunette bob, prune polish and nerd glasses and she looked fabulously sexy … because she looked fresh and modern. Standing out in a crowd is easy but having the courage to try something different and find your own look is really great. Here are five beauty tips for right now.
1. Switch up your eyeliner to intensify your eyes. It will do more than color-of-the minute shadows or a zillion coats of thickening mascara. Sneak some deep rich color in there by choosing sooty shades of violet instead of plain old brown or black. It’ll add a newsy touch, looks good on every eye color and most of all you won’t look like a beauty victim or like you slept in your makeup. Try Bobbi Brown Creamy Eye Pencil in Brown Plum ($20 nordstrom.com) or Laura Mercier Kohl Eye Pencil in Black/Violet ($19 nordstrom.com).
2. Try a matte foundation that matches your real skin. Take a break from your self tanner and get that flawless airbrushed look you wonder about in cosmetic ads. You’ll wind up needing less concealer too. Try Nars Sheer Matte Foundation ($42 nordstrom.com) which I am living in or Rimmel London StayMatte Clarifying Matte Foundation ($6.99 drugstores).
