Establish Good Skincare Habits Early
Dear Beauty Queen: My daughter is 9, and I’ve noticed her nose is spotted with blackheads, and I know it’s because she doesn’t properly wash her face. What’s the best product for her to use to clear them up? I look at her and they’re driving me crazy! I don’t want her to start having to worry about her complexion at such an early age!
Beauty Queen: There’s nothing wrong with teaching your daughter to take care of her skin this early on (you taught her to brush her teeth years ago, right?). Blackheads are a pesky problem, but rest assured that you don’t need to go out and buy a pricy product regimen for your daughter. They can be easily improved by using a clean washcloth everyday along with a medicated cleanser that contains salicylic acid, such as Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash.
There are also medicated pads if it’s easier to get her to use those. The key to getting rid of the blackheads is getting your daughter to use the cleanser or pads every day, and that’s where you may come in. If I were you, I’d try to make skincare fun, and maybe it’s something you two do together every night before bed. Start now, and think of all the fabulous spa days you can have in the years ahead…
