What do Michelle Obama, Kathryn Bigelow – the Oscar winning director of The Hurt Locker, and Gisele Bundchen  all have in common? They’re all over 5’10”, a rare quality in Hollywood. “Most of Hollywood is short!” says fashion consultant and editor Patrick McDonald. As a former fashion design contestant on Launch My Line, and fashion editor, Patrick knows what does and doesn’t work on women. “Tallness is definitely an illusion in Hollywood – it’s all skyscraper heels and hairdos that add height.”

When tall women need style advice, they should shift their attention from celebrities and focus more on themselves to find out what works best. At six feet tall, Lisa Butcher, British supermodel and former presenter of Britain’s Next Top Model, knows this first hand. “Poorly-fitting clothes make a tall figure look awkward, so taller women need to look for items that are crafted just for them.”

  1. I’m kinda tall (5’9″) and I use a few style tips to look taller. When I wear something shorter on the bottom, I always wear a high neckline on top. And vice versa. Also, I almost always wear nude platform heels with no ankle strap when I wear a dress. I feel like an ankle strap makes my legs look shorter because it draws a line there.
Thanks for all the great tips!!!
