Princess alert! If you have a little girl who likes princesses, why not host a pampering party for her and her little princess friends?
You don’t have to spend a fortune renting out this place or that or hiring entertainment, just pick up the Spa Princess Cookbook (Gibbs Smith, 2009), by elementary school teacher Barbara Beery. It’s full of homemade spa treatments like facials and scrubs, delicious and healthy foods and drinks, plus tips on how to give your daughter an unforgettable birthday or sleepover spa party. Here are a couple of our favorites.
Pink Lemonade Lip Shimmer
Makes 2 small jarfuls
Do not eat!
2 tablespoons vegetable shortening
1 tablespoon presweetened pink lemonade drink mix
Stir shortening and drink mix together in a small microwave-safe container until smooth. Place container in the microwave and heat for 15 to 20 seconds. Stir and heat another 10 to 15 seconds until mixture turns into a liquid. Remove from microwave and whisk with a fork to combine. Cool 5 minutes. Pour into 2 small jars. Chill in refrigerator at least 30 minutes to solidify. Will keep for 1 week.
Pretty Princess Strawberries
Makes 12 strawberries
8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 to 4 tablespoons powdered sugar
1 to 2 drops red food coloring
12 strawberries, tops and bottoms slightly trimmed
2 tablespoons multicolored sprinkles
Combine cream cheese, vanilla, powdered sugar, and food coloring in a small mixing bowl. Using a hand mixer, beat 2 to 3 minutes until mixture is light and fluffy. Use a small melon baller to scoop out tops of each strawberry. Fill a small Ziploc bag with the cream cheese mixture. Snip off one lower corner of the bag with a pair of kitchen shears. Squeeze air out of bag and securely seal shut. Generously pipe the cream cheese filling from the bag into the hole of each strawberry, making a swirl to finish off each. Decorate with sprinkles and serve immediately. Or, strawberries may be covered and stored up to 4 hours. If storing, decorate with sprinkles right before serving.
