Hugh Hefner Saves Hollywood!
The generous playboy donated the final funds needed to save the iconic Hollywood sign from being torn down.
You have to hand it to Hef – he knows a good thing when he sees it. Whether it’s a multi-million dollar franchise (Playboy), or a really hot blonde, Hugh Hefner will do whatever it takes to get it. And, he thinks the Hollywood sign in Los Angeles is definitely a good thing.
Hef donated $900,000 yesterday to help save the Hollywood sign and the property it’s on from being sold by developers, who had plans of tearing it down to make room for luxury houses. Governator Arnold Schwarzenegger joined forces with the Trust for Public Land to raise the $12.5 million needed to “Save the Peak,” and buy back the land from its Chicago owners.
“[I did] what a Terminator is supposed to do, which is to jump into action,” Schwarzenegger said (P.S. don’t you love that he says things like that?). He was happy to announce yesterday that thanks to Hef’s generous donation, plus the contributions from the Tiffany Foundation, Aileen Getty, and local L.A. residents, the Hollywood sign has been saved!
Way to go L.A.! Hollywood just wouldn’t be the same without it. (L.A. Times)
