If You Support Obama, Don’t Bother Going to This Doctor
He’d really rather not treat you.
A Florida urologist, angered by the passage of the health-care reform bill, posted a sign on his door earlier this week telling supporters of President Obama “to seek urologic care elsewhere.”
The sign on the door of Dr. Jack Cassell’s office reads in its entirety: “If you voted for Obama, seek urologic care elsewhere. Changes to your health care begin right now, not in four years.”
Cassell, a registered Republican, was careful to say, “I’m not turning anybody away – that would be unethical.” But, he added in an interview with the Orlando Sentinel, “If they read the sign and turn the other way, so be it…I can at least make a point.”
The doctor practices in the central Florida town of Mount Dora, which is north of Orlando in Lake County, a largely Republican area.
Estella Chapman, 67, told the Sentinel that a friend of hers, who had been referred to Cassell, was upset by the sign. “He’s going to find another doctor,” she said.
William Allen, a professor of bioethics at the University of Florida’s College of Medicine, told the newspaper that Cassell might be walking a fine line between his professional ethical obligations and his right to free speech. (Orlando Sentinel)
