Workout Gear On a Budget
Don’t sweat the high-priced gear; some of these are just as good
-Julie Ryan Evans
I love workout gear and could happily pore over the Athleta catalog, browse the Lucy site or stroll around a Lululemon store for hours picking out $200 workout outfits … and I have. But enter the ECONOMY, and suddenly we’re all looking for ways to cut costs.
Workout gear is important, but really it’s about what you do in it that matters most, AND there’s a whole slew of bargain-priced gear that’s quite cute and functional as well. In fact, my FAVORITE running shorts are from the first place you should visit in your quest for gear for less – TARGET! Note: Unfortunately, the shorts were discontinued, or believe me, I would share my find with you, because they ROCK. But there’s more to be found …
ATTENTION, WAL-MART SHOPPERS – check out some of the new workout gear there! You can get an entire velour track suit for just $18! That’s right, $9 for the zip-up hoodie and $9 for the pants – both of which come in an array of colors. And the giant superstore is now also carrying merchandise by Danskin, like this tank with shelf bra for $12! and some gear by the legendary Norma Kamali, like these jog pants for $12.
Also, worth popping into once in a while are your local T.J. Maxx, Marshall’s and Ross stores. While you’ll have to do some digging, their workout gear racks are often overflowing with good-quality, brand-name gear in a wide range of styles and sizes. It’s hit-or-miss, but when you hit, you can hit it big.
So go on and get your sweat on … without sweating the price.
