Jaycee Dugard Hires Celebrity Lawyer
Her new attorney has represented Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton.
Kidnapping victim Jaycee Dugard, whose family has begged for privacy following her 18-year ordeal, has hired a Southern California lawyer who’s worked with a number of celebrities.
According to RadarOnline.com, the attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, was also a member of O.J. Simpson’s defense team. Holley has represented Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie.
She’ll also be acting as attorney for Jaycee’s two daughters. It’s not known who made the decision to hire Holley; court documents obtained by RadarOnline only say that “she has been retained.”
Jaycee reappeared in August of last year, ending a horrifying 18-year ordeal that began when she was kidnapped on a California street in 1991. During her time in captivity, she was raped repeatedly and had two children as a result. An Antioch, Calif. Couple, Phillip and Nancy Garrido, have been charged in the crime and are in prison awaiting trial.
Once her story became known, Jaycee’s family begged for privacy and allowed only limited media access to her. They provided a photo to People magazine and allowed an interview on Oprah Winfrey’s show. Jaycee also made a video thanking everyone for their support.
But earlier this week, RadarOnline reported that unauthorized photos of Jaycee, taken in a public place, were being circulated by a photographer to various media outlets in hopes of publication. The photographer expects to make six figures from the pictures.
The hiring of a tough defense attorney could signal that Jaycee is moving to protect herself from unauthorized media exposure, or that she wants someone who can guide her through the maze of the media/entertainment business.
Experts have said that Jaycee’s recovery from her ordeal will be long and very difficult. Hopefully her new attorney will give her the best possible protection during that process. (RadarOnline)
