Julie & Julia
Passion. Ambition. Butter. Do you have what it takes?
Julie & Julia, a fab foodie movie, comes out today. It’s about the now famous food icon of the ‘60s Julia Child (Meryl Streep) and Julie Powell (Amy Adams), whose 2005 book, Julie and Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen documents her attempts to cook each of the 524 recipes in Child’s two-volume Mastering the Art of French Cooking (1961, 1970).
Written and directed by Nora Ephron, the movie interweaves the lives of these two women, who are both at career loose ends.
After you see the movie (and you really must see it!), we Betty editors thought you might be in the mood for one of Julia’s famous French recipes so here’s one from Volume II of The Art of Mastering French Cooking, which Julia Child published in 1970.
Julia adds these words of advice to home cooks: “Do read the recipe before you start in to cook.” And our favorite advice: ” … keep your knives sharp and, above all … have a good time.”
