The pit-bull lawyer for David Letterman’s alleged extortionist is said to be “champing at the bit” to grill the Late Show star on the witness stand, reports the New York Post.
Gerald Shargel, who famously earned a surprise acquittal for John Gotti on an assault charge in the early 1990s, is set to defend alleged extortionist Robert ‘Joe’ Halderman should the case go to trial. And the former mob laywer is known for his blistering cross-examinations.
“You’ve got to smell the weakness,” Shargel once said. “Where is this person vulnerable?”
Halderman pleaded not guilty to charges of extortion against David Letterman last week and is currently free on $200,000 bail. (NY Post)
