Lindsey Vonn Using Cheese to Help Heel Shin Injury
The Olympic hopeful is trying every single remedy possible to try and overcome her shin injury and compete in Vancouver.
Lindsey Vonn has been the face of the Vancouver Olympics, featured in commercials and on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Everyone has been hoping that Vonn would be the Winter Olympics’ Michael Phelps for winning numerous gold medals as the best female skier in American history.
But now, it’s unclear whether or not Vonn will even compete. She revealed in a press conference yesterday that she suffered a shin injury while doing a practice run in Austria last week. Although she’s been injured many times throughout her career, she says that this one has been the most painful and affects every move she makes.
“It’s probably the worst area you can have an injury,” she said. “You can’t ignore it; it’s right there with every turn… I’m pretty much doing anything and everything to make it feel better.”
Besides using laser treatment, Vonn is also using cheese to help heel her shin. Yes, cheese. She’s been wrapping slices of cheese around her leg to reduce swelling. She refuses to get an x-ray because she doesn’t want the doctor telling her the bone is broken.
Instead, Vonn plans to soldier on, deal with the pain, and win herself some gold medals. “I’ve skied with pain,” she said. “I’ve skied with a lot of different injuries, and to this point, I’ve been able to ski well with these injuries. All I can hope for is that I’m able to push through it. Knowing that I’ve done it before gives me a lot of confidence.” (ESPN)
