Tip of the day:
Snack smart. You’ve probably been nibbling on holiday treats for the past few weeks, so now is a perfect time to choose better munchies. Nutritionist and wellness coach Jackie Keller, author of Body After Baby and founder of the Nutrifit food-delivery program in Los Angeles, suggests easy, calcium-filled snacks like a stick of string cheese or an individual slice of low-fat cheddar cheese. If you’re battling a sweet tooth, try fresh slices of apples or pears mixed with ½ ounce of nuts (nutrient-packed walnuts or almonds are best).
1 hard-boiled egg
2 whole grain crackers
½ cup blueberries
1 sliced apple with 1 tablespoon all natural, reduced-fat peanut butter
2 cups romaine lettuce
½ cup chopped tomatoes
¼ cup chopped cucumbers and carrots
2 ounces roasted turkey breast
1 ounce roast beef
1 ounce reduced-fat cheddar cheese
2 tablespoons fat-free Italian dressing
½ banana (save remainder for Wild Berry Smoothie, recipe below)
½ cup fat-free pudding
4 ounces grilled chicken breast teriyaki (marinate chicken before grilling)
½ cup brown rice
2 cups stir-fried Asian vegetables
Wild Berry Smoothie:
Blend 1 cup unsweetened berry juice with 2 ounces light tofu (any firmness), ½ cup frozen mixed berries, and ½ banana
