Michelle Obama

The end of a long week, pets! And what a … colorful week it’s been, hmm? Mean Betty could not help but notice how many fashion emergencies we had this week. We’ve already pointed out Hilary Duff’s mystifying gown, Michelle Obama’s stately sun dress, above (she’s just missing the margarita!), and Katherine Heigl’s simply hideous get-up. Wait — you did see Katherine Heigl, right? Let Mean Betty share, just in case you missed it …

Katherine Heigl

Mind-boggling, no?

Let’s take a look at some of the other highlights of the week, shall we?

Martha Stewart

Martha Stewart helped Good Housekeeping celebrate “125 Years of Women Making Their Mark” by getting disco-fabulous in a pair of gold pajama pants. It’s not a Good Thing, Martha. But Mean Betty thinks it’s fun that you posed in front of … what is that, a jail cell? Love that sense of humor!

Gwen Stefani looks terrible. Michelle’s dress — love the floatyness and the beautiful color.

Well, Gwen’s ensemble is a bit…surprising…considering that she’s usually tres fashion-forward, always put-together in her own inimitable style. Maybe she just had a temporary loss of style-vision or maybe her Lamb went astray for a few days. In any event, I think we are WAY too hard on celebs about their clothing/appearance. You know how much work it is to have to get all gussied up, full hair and make-up and so forth, just to go grocery shopping or to Starbucks ? We have this preposterous standard for celebs that we couldn’t live up to in our own lives; it is just plain silly and unrealistic. Let ‘em have bad hair days, comfy clothes days, poor sartorial choice days; it doesn’t diminish the magnitude of their talent one iota. ( except for those who are celebs-for-celeb-sake and not actors or other bona fide entertainment industry personalities…thinking Paris Hilton et al here; I could care less what she wears, not relevant.) leave ‘em alone; it really doesn’t matter one whit.

I think Martha Stewart’s gold pants would have looked fabulous with a black chiffon wrap blouse with a large off-the-shoulder portrait collar and a sash that accented her waist more. The pants aren’t the problem – that baggy old top is!
