Mel Gibson: ‘I Feel Sorry for Tiger Woods’
The Edge of Darkness star reveals his thoughts about the Tiger Woods scandal.
Mel Gibson (above with girlfriend, Russian singer Oksana Grigorieva) hasn’t had an easy time in the Hollywood spotlight. People have criticized him for his trouble with alcohol, his divorce from his wife of 29 years, Robyn, his anti-Semitic comments, and his involvement in such controversial films as The Passion of the Christ.
So, Mel can understand what Tiger Woods is going through after the massive scandal broke out about the pro golfer cheating on his wife with multiple women.
‘Nobody is without sin,” he told the Daily Mail. “You have to try to make amends if you can. You have to shut up and move on and not whine about it. And you have to deal with it like a man. And that’s it. Whatever fallout comes from it, be it fair or unfair, you’ve just got to accept your own culpability. The minute you start whining, it’s ridiculous.”
Gibson had some practice with this himself when his marriage ended last April. “When all’s said and done I did a pretty good hatchet job on my marriage,” he said. “I’m to blame, if you’re inclined to judge.”
However, the Edge of Darkness star does feel bad for Tiger’s situation in terms of how the media became obsessed with the story.
“I feel sorry for Tiger Woods,” he says. “Why are we talking about this when we’re sending 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan? You’ve got this history-changing event going on and we’re talking about Tiger’s private life and golf injuries. He’s being used as a diversion and it just drives me crazy. You come out savaged. I just think, ‘Who cares?” (Daily Mail)
