Michelle Obama Wows at Grocery Manufacturers Association
Not only did the first lady give a convincing speech to make food in grocery stores healthier, but Michelle Obama also looked fantastic.
As a designer, it must be an absolute thrill when the first lady wears one of your designs. For L’Wren Scott, Mick Jagger’s girlfriend, that special privilege became a reality yesterday when Michelle Obama attended a meeting with the Grocery Manufacturers Association in a L’Wren Scott ensemble.
With her sleeveless big-bowed pink and white striped blouse reminiscent of a candy striper, and her fuschia high-waisted pencil skirt (both from L’Wren Scott’s Spring 2010 collection), Michelle Obama looked ready for spring. No wonder the GMA audience greeted her with a standing ovation upon entering the room.
Although all eyes may have been on Mrs. Obama’s striking outfit, the message she relayed to members of the GMA was much more important. In conjunction with her Let’s Move! Initiative, Mrs. Obama called on members of the GMA to alter the way they make and market foods to kids.
“If there is anyone here who can sell food to our kids, it’s you,” she said. “You know what gets their attention. You know what makes that lasting impression. You know what gets them to drive their parents crazy in the grocery store. And I’m here today to ask you to use that knowledge and that power to our kids’ advantage. I’m asking you to actively promote healthy foods and healthy habits to our kids.”
