Michelle Obama: Mom-in-Chief
All eyes now turn to the next first family
-April Daniels Hussar
Barack Obama will come to the White House in January with his beautiful family in tow, including of course his striking wife Michelle Obama. As reactions to the election flood newspapers and websites across the entire world, the attention is now turning to Michelle, who promises to bring a combination of both glamour and her own intelligent, down-to-earth quality to Washington.
Michelle’s professional life is impressive indeed, but when I think about her, the first thing that comes to mind is “mother.” Her devotion to her little daughters Malia Ann, 10, and Sasha, 7 seems evident in all that she does. The New York Post quotes her as saying: “My first job, in all honesty, is going to continue to be ‘mom-in-chief.'”
Here’s just a sample of what’s being said about our next First Lady today in the US and around the world:
… the ultimate symbol of the American dream.
The Gulf News:
Move over Jackie O, here comes Michelle O: a new style icon for the new political era dawning in America.
… like her husband, she will break a barrier: a descendant of slaves moving into the White House as first lady.
And the most amusing comes from The Times Online in London:
That rather sad, muffled noise you hear behind the whoops and cheers of Democrat America is not the sound of defeated neocons mourning the passing of trickle-down economics; it is the sound of sobbing in the Élysée Palace. For Carla Bruni, reigning queen of First Ladies, the game is finally up. Cindy McCain would have been a push-over; even Sarah Palin she could have coped with, sexy specs or otherwise. But in Michelle Obama, Ms Bruni has truly met her match. This is a First Lady like none before.
