Miss USA: Perez Hilton vs. Miss California

Miss USA pageant becomes a hot-button for the gay marriage debate

Perez Hilton and Miss California (aka Carrie Prejean)Update 11 a.m., 4/21: The drama continues between Perez Hilton and Miss California Carrie Prejean. She’s not wavering in her stance and told Fox News that she has “no regrets” about the comments she made regarding same-sex marriage (see below).

And she blames Perez’s probing for her loss to Miss North Carolina.

“It did cost me my crown,” Prejean continued in the interview. “It is a very touchy subject and [Hilton] is a homosexual, and I see where he was coming from and I see the audience would’ve wanted me to be more politically correct. But I was raised in a way that you can never compromise your beliefs and your opinions for anything.”

But she’s not letting it get her down.

“I feel like I won,” she said. “I feel like I’m the winner. I really do.” Perez Tweeted back: “Dear Fox News, if you want to chat with me, I’m happy to talk. You know how to reach me!”

In response to a video in which Perez calls her a “bitch,” Prejean had this to say on MSNBC this morning:

“I can only say to him that I will be praying for him. I feel sorry for him, I really do,” Prejean said. “I think he’s angry, I think he’s hurt. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. He asked me specifically what my opinion was on that subject and I gave him an honest answer.”

Perez tweeted that he’s praying for Prejean as well.

Perez Hilton, no stranger to controversy, caused quite the little furor in Twitterland over the weekend, as the saga of Perez Hilton vs. Miss California (aka Carrie Prejean, ) exploded. (What we want to know is … what the heck was Perez Hilton doing judging the Miss USA pageant anyway?)

In case you missed the “dramz” – Perez pulled a surprisingly eloquent and direct question out of his gossip-mongering bum, and asked the Barbie-doll replica Miss California (seriously, she looks JUST like Barbie!): “Vermont recently became the fourth state to legalize same-sex marriage. Do you think every state should follow suit? Why or why not?”

We’ll let you see Miss Cali’s answer for yourself:

Perez posted a response video on his blog — where he states that not only did Miss California give “the worst answer in pageant history” but that she lost the pageant (she was the 1st  runner up, losing the crown to Miss North Carolina Kristen Dalton) “not because she doesn’t believe in gay marriage but because she’s a DUMB BITCH.”

What do you think about all this? Was Miss California’s answer so terrible? Do you think this whole episode furthered the cause of gay marriage? Or do you agree with these tweets:

@michellemalkin Think of Perez Hilton as the Ann Coulter counterpart.

@Jtmcalum: Liberal tolerance: Perez Hilton calls Miss Calif USA a “dumb bitch” for opposing gay marriage.

In other words – who’s the bad guy here? Miss California? Or Perez Hilton?

  1. I have to say — she wasn’t very eloquent (to put it mildly), but I do give Miss California credit for saying what she believed. I’m not in agreement with her, but she was honest.

  2. I give her props for not giving the PC answer, but, gee, did she have to so obviously buy herself time to gather her courage to say how she really felt?

  3. Very short and vague – and obviously, based on the fact that only a few states are legalizing same-sex marriage, not all Americans have the right to choose.

  4. 1. Perez shouldn’t have used a BEAUTY PAGEANT to promote his political agenda.

    2. I give her props for answering the question truthfully. Some of the other contestants were too wishy-washy in their answers and seemed like they were afraid to offend ANYONE.

  5. Yeah WHY is Perez judging Miss USA?! I think he should stick to blogging. I am however happy that he asked her that question, and am disappointed by her response.

  6. Isn’t being a dumbass one of the requirements for being a pageant contestant? Besides Vanessa Williams, when has any pageant winner done anything particularly interesting or helpful?

  7. I cannot for one believe that we can sit here and say we live in a modern era free to love everyone including ourselves yet we drown ourselves in this beauty pagent! I mean what do these women contribute to society overall other than a bunch of lukewarm answers and plenty for your husband to compare you to! Many of these women are not really real anymore. They are conditioned, groomed, and by that I mean they have lots of plastic surgeries they will deny, they worry more about their makeup and hair than about their neighbor, they are so politically correct it is sickening! Lets move past these beauty pagents from our parents and grandparents era and embrace the world we live in! LOVE EVERYBODY!

  8. she reminds me of the miss teen south carolina answer…ummm uhhhh I like believe in regular marriage, not opposite marriage, like wow!!! What the hell is opposite marriage anyway….I agree with Perez, she lost cause she’s stupid!!

  9. Hi I’m Perez Hilton…Whah! Boohoo! Miss California did not answer my question in a politically correct manner and therefore I will make sure she will go down! How dare she expressed her personal opinion when I truly wanted her to answer according to MY BELIEFS! I will shout her down, I will have all my gay and lesbian friends throw temper tantrums on youtube to insult her! It
