Betty on the News: Ralph Lauren Model Says She Was Fired for Being Too Fat
Filippa Hamilton had a contract with Ralph Lauren, until she was “too fat” to model for the fashion house.
Oh yeah, this girl is just huge! Filippa Hamilton is telling reporters that Ralph Lauren fired her in April, claiming that she was too overweight to fit in their clothes (she’s 5’10” and 120 pounds).
Then, to make matters worse, the fashion house released an ad in Japan (right) of Hamilton with a completed emaciated-looking body. Clearly, Ralph Lauren got a little Photoshop-happy.
“I was shocked to see that super skinny girl with my face,” Hamilton told the NY Daily News. “It’s very sad, I think, that Ralph Lauren could do something like that.”
Ralph Lauren issued a statement saying that the release of the ad was a mistake and that Hamilton is a “beautiful and healthy” woman, but she was let go because “of her inability to meet the obligations under her contract with us.”
“I think they owe American women an apology, a big apology,” Hamilton says. “I’m very proud of what I look like, and I think a role model should look healthy.”
