Barack Obama’s Grandmother Dies Hours before the Election
She was a guiding force in his life
-Julie Ryan Evans
Just hours before the election (5 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Monday), Barack Obama’s grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, passed away. She was 86 and had been battling cancer.
By all accounts, she was an incredibly strong and guiding force in Obama’s life. From a statement released by him and his sister: “She was the person who encouraged and allowed us to take chances. She was proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and left this world with the knowledge that her impact on all of us was meaningful and enduring. Our debt to her is beyond measure.”
How sad that she will never know if her grandson was, in fact, elected as President of the United States. But how wonderful that she got to see him get this close.
Our condolences to Barack and his family.
