Oprah Announces New Evening Show
Her new show, which will air on her brand new network, will take her around the world.
For those of you who were shocked and saddened by Oprah’s decision earlier this year to end her daytime talk show, this will cheer you up. The 56-year-old isn’t retiring, she’s just working on her new television network.
That’s right. Oprah has partnered with cable programmer Discovery Communications Inc. (Discovery Channel, Discovery Health), to form OWN, a new cable network that is expected to debut January 1, 2011. So now, instead of just one hour of Oprah love a day, you can watch Oprah-inspired television 24/7!
The shows being created for the network bank on what made Oprah so successful – there will be a book-club show, a show about people doing good in their local communities, a celeb reality series following Shania Twain after her broken marriage, and more.
The most important show, however, will be Oprah’s new evening program, called “Oprah’s Next Chapter.” Instead of interviewing celebrities on a couch, Oprah will be traveling the world with her guests, asking them questions in Egypt and China in a one hour segment that will likely air three times a week.
Pssh, and you thought Oprah was going away! (Wall Street Journal)
