Oprah Settles Defamation Suit
Ms. Winfrey and Ms. Mzamane have resolved their beef.
Oprah Winfrey has finally settled the defamation suit filed by the former headmistress of her South African school for underprivileged girls, meaning she will no longer be required to appear in court at the end of March.
Nomvuyo Mzamane felt that the Oprah ruined her reputation after the talk show host accused her of ignoring students’ claims that they were being sexually abused by a faculty member.
Oprah was expecting to defend herself on the ground of free speech, but lawyers for both sides have revealed that a deal has been made, with Winfrey confirming that “she did not intend the implications placed on her words by the plaintiff”. (The Guardian)
