I dressed the part as a New York City fashion editor for nearly a decade until I put my career on hold when I had kids. As a Long Island mommy now, I’ve – happily – swapped my Tuleh for tees, Ungaro for Uggs and Stella McCartney for sweats. Since then, the closest I’ve come to dressing up has been watching my two-year-old daughter Chloe gleefully slip into a pink and gold tulle princess gown, velvet slippers and clip-on rhinestone earrings on Halloween.
With my house mayhem in the morning getting Chloe ready for nursery school and feeding my son Jordan, six months, his bottle, not only have I turned from couture to comfort, but I’ve had to reduce my getting-ready time, too. How did I go from fifty down to five minutes? One simple shortcut was trading my pj-like sweats for the real thing, which eliminated a morning change of clothes. To do this, I needed to find jammies that are both comfortable and chic. It was actually easy, since hip designers like Juicy, DKNY and Calvin Klein are now offering pajamas as cool as their ready-to-wear collections.
These five fab finds work 24/7, and won’t leave your kids asking why you are going outside in your ‘night night’ clothes.
Ralph Lauren Pink Pony Pajama Set, $165. A worthy splurge considering this classic set, complete with preppy piping, useful patch pockets and the brand’s iconic pony, in pink, will never date. The proceeds go to support cancer research, too.
Victoria’s Secret Organic Cotton Tank Pajamas, $49. The easy, breezy blouson tank gets bonus points for its longer hip-length and comfy drawstring waist that forgives an extra few pounds of baby weight.
P.J. Salvage Wild Safari Nightshirt, $60. Just throw on black leggings under this velour animal print shirt and you’ll fit right in at even the most exclusive PTA meetings.
Lands’ End Embroidery Tank Gown, $25. So cute for summer with flip-flops in either pink or blue, and a great price, too!
