Study shows whole grains may reduce acne
-Julie Ryan Evans
Instead of looking in your medicine cabinet for the cream, lotion or magic potion to treat acne, you may want to look in your refrigerator instead.
According to a study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition a low-glycemic diet – which means more whole grains like whole wheat bread and pasta and more meat and fruits and vegetables – can significantly zap zits.
“One explanation: Low-glycemic foods keep insulin steady, and refined carbs and sugar spike it. The surges may boost production of androgens, hormones that, when elevated, can cause zits. After 12 weeks of a low-glycemic diet, subjects’ pimple counts dropped 20 percent.”
While more studies are needed to confirm the effectiveness of whole grains in treating acne, eating more of them help out your health anyway. So bring ‘em on!
