Reunited: Chris and Rihanna
And it feels so good?
The bruises and cuts have barely had time to heal, but reportedly Rihanna and Chris Brown are back together already. People magazine says that the two are spending time at Sean “Diddy” Combs’ mansion in Miami. An unidentified source is quoted as saying:
“While Chris is reflective and saddened about what has happened, he is really happy to be with the woman he loves.”
Please stop right there. That quote might have been viable had that photo not been leaked all over the internet last week, but now we’ve all seen Chris’s alleged handiwork. And while none of us were there that night, we’ve seen the photo, we’ve heard the story, and the facts are there: the police report states Chris threatened to kill Rihanna and choked her into unconsciousness.
I can’t imagine many are thrilled the couple is back together. More are probably scared for what might happen. When the attack first occurred, Rihanna’s dad, Ronald Fenty, was quoted in People: “I hope she will stand up for women all over the world,” and, “If it were me, I’d move on.”
On Saturday, People quoted Fenty as calling his daughter a “smart girl” and that he has no comment on Chris Brown. Us Weekly says Rihanna’s dad is OK with the two getting back together. “I love my daughter with whatever road she takes. I’m behind her win or lose. I will be supportive.”
Win or lose?
Live or die, do you mean?
Apparently, Brown has been wooing Rihanna by giving her gifts of designer shoes, jewels, Guitar Hero and a handbag.
I’m sorry, but couldn’t Rihanna afford her own Guitar Hero if she wanted one? Maybe she should request Wii Boxing, so she can learn to defend herself.
I probably could have predicted a reuniting though, because this is what so often happens in cases of domestic violence. There is one purpose, and Brown is setting it up to achieve it perfectly: To gain and maintain total control over his victim.
Brown might have just reunited with Rihanna, but he’s been dumped by Wrigley gum and the Milk Mustache campaigns, and some radio stations have temporarily banned his songs. It’s been reported that he signed up for anger management classes; he attended his first one in Glendale, California last Monday. One insider told the New York Daily News, “Chris doesn’t actually have to go by law but he believes it will make him look better to the public and he wants to try to get in a few classes before March 5,” which his court date.
He’s worried about his public? Why not worry about the woman he just beat up?
My prediction is that next Rihanna will drop all charges, and things might get better for a while. But we’ll all be watching, and we’ll all be waiting, because unfortunately, and very, very sadly, for both of these stars who have the world so far ahead of them they can do anything they choose, the depressing fact is abuse is never a one-time event.
And if they stay together, it’s going to continue to seriously damage both of them.
