“Space Monkey” Strangling Craze Spreading Among Kids Via the Internet
“Space Monkey” is gaining in popularity, but we don’t mean a cute chimp.
Although “Space Monkey” sounds like it could be a fun video or computer game, if you hear your children talking about, beware! It’s actually a dangerous choking game that is spreading among kids via the Internet and involves squeezing the carotid arteries in the neck to restrict the flow of blood to the head. If you’re wondering why anyone would want to do that, it’s because it supposedly leads to a sudden rush of oxygen to the brain, giving a feeling of euphoria, similar to drugs.
However, doctors warn that “Space Monkey” and games like it are extremely dangerous and can lead to brain damage, unconsciousness, and death. The U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 86 children in the past 10 years have died in the U.S. from playing choking games. (Fox News)
