Surely it’s got to be a publicity stunt … like everything else they do

Note: If you don’t watch The Hills or loathe it and don’t understand why a grown woman would be enthralled with the scripted “reality” show, you can stop reading now. You will only think much, much less of me if you proceed further.
It bothers me that it bothers me so much, but ever since I heard the news that Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt (aka Speidi) of the The Hills eloped, I’ve been cranky … and outraged and shocked.
I know, I know … who cares about them and the publicity whoring ways? I guess I do. And I just can’t fathom that she would say I do to this dolt.
I like bad boys, that’s not the problem. I may have been the only Hills viewer who was seriously in love with Jason (Lauren’s awful ex-boyfriend). I defended him and his wayward ways, because … he was seriously HOT. Justin Bobby? Well, ever since he stopped all the belching I’ve find him irresistible. And Brody Jenner? I don’t care what he does, he’s still a god in my book (and yes, I realize I could have mothered them all … if I had gotten pregnant when I was REALLY young – but that’s beside the point).
So it’s not that Spencer is bad … it’s that he’s GROSS. He has no redeeming qualities, and frankly, he’s not even attractive AT ALL. Don’t even get me started on his whiny voice…
So why oh why would Heidi, a seemingly nice girl led astray by his evil ways, be so attracted to the guy who has managed to muck up her entire life, drive away her friends and family and make her a laughing stock? She seems to come from a nice family; she DID have friends; and though I don’t favor her look, I’m sure a lot of NICE men would kill to go out with her.
The ONLY possible explanation for their elopement to Cabo is that it’s for publicity, which seems to be their main motivation in pretty much everything they do. But still, does she not watch the episodes? Does she not see how creepy and awful he is? Does she have no self respect whatsoever? While I know (on some level) the show is scripted, there’s no way they could make him that repulsive if he wasn’t in real life. Right?
After I forgave her for being such a bitch to Lauren, I started to feel sorry for poor Heidi. But no more. If she’s willing to wed her soul to the devil for a little publicity (which, of course, I’m giving them by posting this rant), then she deserves everything she gets. And let’s all pray that doesn’t mean a bunch of little Spencer-like spawn running around, posing for the paps.
The only thing that comforts me a little in this whole mess is that it’s been confirmed that there WILL be another season of The Hills.
