Stephenie Meyer’s Brand-New Novel
The Twilight author will give it to you for free!
Good news for Twilight fanatics: Stephenie Meyer is continuing her mega-selling saga with the tale of a newborn vampire who first appeared in Eclipse. The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella will make its appearance at 12:01 a.m. on June 5, with an e-book version available at 6 a.m.
But if you aren’t inclined to storm a bookstore at midnight, or set your alarm clock for earlier than 7 a.m., or if you just don’t have the $13.99, you can read the book for free from June 7 to July 5 at breetanner.com. “You all have bought a ton of my books,” Meyer told her fans on her website. “And I wanted to give it to you as a gift.” (If you do buy the book, though, one dollar from each sale will go to the relief efforts of the American Red Cross in hard-hit areas of the world, including Haiti.)
Meyer, normally the most methodical of authors, says she wasn’t looking to write a new book: “I’m as surprised as anyone about this novella.” At first, she envisioned Bree Tanner as a story on her website, and then as part of her The Twilight Saga: The Official Guide, but the story grew and grew until it became too long to include in either place. (The Official Guide hasn’t been published yet.)
As for the content Meyer isn’t saying too much about Bree Tanner, other than that it’s the “devastating story” of an army of newborn bloodsuckers who are out to get Bella and the Cullens.
Little Bree herself is going to be featured in the upcoming movie The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, which will be released on June 30. Says director David Slade, “I think fans are going to love the fascinating details involved in the loves, fears and actions of an emerging vampire.”
We can’t wait. (Publishers Weekly)
