Stranded Airport Passengers Seek Affairs
“Married dating” site reports upsurge since volcanic-ash crisis.
Not every traveler stuck in an airport during the volcanic-ash incident is curled up with a good book.
In fact, a lot of them are checking out www.IllicitEncounters.com, a UK dating site that hooks up married people looking for an affair on the side. According to the website, usage has been up sharply during the last few days as hundreds of thousands of travelers have been stranded in England and on the continent following the explosion of the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajokull on April 14.
On the average, IllicitEncounters gets 7 percent of its daily traffic on mobile devices; on April 16, at the height of the travel crisis, the figure was 15 percent.
Adam Scott, CEO of IllicitEncounters, said he wasn’t surprised by the increase. “Major travel stoppages have always affected us,” he said.”Back in January, the snow caused our site to crash temporarily due to the excessive amount of visits we were receiving. Boredom and frustration mean that those stuck in airports across the world will be looking for the most stimulating, exciting thing they can get away with on their mobile. And what’s more exciting than the idea of having an illicit affair?”
The site, which has more than 450,000 members in the UK, said it expects its traffic to return to normal once the travel crisis is over.
In the meantime, for those still waiting for the plane, a brief check showed 707 people online—and they’re ready to chat. (UK PR Web)
