The Betty Interview: Alison Sweeney

The host of The Biggest Loser, who’s also the ultimate bad girl on Days of Our Lives, dishes to BettyConfidential about her co-stars, being called out by the Fashion Police, and getting her body back after baby number two

Alison Sweeney

Alison Sweeney is the master of multitasking. The 33-year-old somehow manages to rock two jobs (her hosting duties on the weight-loss reality show The Biggest Loser, and playing the deliciously devilish Sami Brady on Days of Our Lives), while being a supportive wife (to highway patrolman Dave) and mother of two (Benjamin, 4, and Megan, nearly 10 months). “I wish there was a big secret [to juggling it all]!” Alison says, humbly. “I’d love to hear it! I’m constantly struggling. But I try to take it one day at a time and commit to every moment. So if I’m at Days, I’m giving Sami my focus, when I’m at Biggest Loser, I’m concentrating on that, and when I’m at home with my husband and kids, I’m giving them 100 percent.”

Having been on Days for 17 years (over half her life!), Alison has acted out pretty much every storyline from being bulimic, raped, and stood up at the altar to being a teen mom, fighting over a guy with her older sister, and even trying to sell her baby sister on the black market. That’s right, “Sami is never boring!” laughs Alison. “It’s always a fun adventure playing her. And this fall has been some of the best writing I’ve ever seen on the show. I’m so excited about November sweeps.”

Shay The Biggest LoserThough Alison’s been sworn to secrecy and can’t share any Days dirt, she does reveal her two biggest inspirations on this season of The Biggest Loser, which is all about second chances: Abby Rike — who lost her husband and two children in a tragic car accident — and Shay Sorrells, the heaviest contestant in the show’s eight-season history (pictured here), who was both homeless and in and out of foster care as a teen before losing her mom to a heroin overdose. “Neither of them wanted to be treated any differently because of their circumstances,” says Alison. “They were so inspiring.”

Alison Sweeney with daughter MeganThe same could be said of the actress-host. After giving birth to her daughter Megan in January, she was back — and looking fabulous — on The Biggest Loser just eight days after, and she returned to Days six days later. Her secret? “EA Active, a workout program for the Nintendo Wii,” shares Alison. “It was an excellent kick-start for me. The Wii was always sitting there as I walked by, reminding me I needed to work out and making sure I didn’t make excuses since I could work out right at home while my kids were sleeping. It really is a personal trainer in a box. I recommend it for all moms.”
