The Betty Interview: Ramona Singer
The Real Housewives of New York City star dishes with BettyConfidential on the tumultuous new season, the surprising person she’ll be throwing Bethenny’s baby shower with, and what she really thinks about Kelly posing for Playboy.
Brace yourselves, Real Housewives of New York City fans! Ramona Singer promises season three (which kicks off March 4 at 11 p.m. EST on Bravo) will be the wildest, bumpiest yet. The chatty Housewife tells BettyConfidential that the latest Upper East Side catfight fest plays more like a sneaky season of Survivor. “There are all new alliances,” reveals Ramona, 53, who shares screen time with her husband, Mario, and her “wise beyond her years” daughter, Avery, 15. “The people you thought were friends, suddenly aren’t, and people you thought hated each other, suddenly don’t. I’m still sitting on the edge of my seat to see how this whole season plays out!”
Another highly anticipated event in Ramona’s life is the March 2, one-year anniversary show for her Ramona Singer Jewelry line with HSN (she’s on live at 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. EST). The busy mom, who also has her own skincare line, Tru Renewal, has designed 18 new art deco-inspired, estate-worthy pieces to add to her already successful collection. “It’s a dream come true to create jewelry that looks like it comes from Madison Avenue, but for a fraction of the price,” says Ramona, “and with real diamonds and gemstones that you can wear, treasure and pass on!”
What can you tell us about this season of Real Housewives?
This is going to be the most tumultuous season ever. You have Alex [McCord], who was very quiet last season, almost church mouse-like. She breaks out and becomes a screaming rat. You really won’t believe it! And Kelly [Killoren Bensimon]’s line from last season, “I’m up here, you’re down here,” looks like child’s play compared to what happens this season.
Are you still on the outs with Alex and Simon [van Kempen]?
You’ll see in the first episode that I have a new relationship with Alex and Simon. Remember, I actually danced with Simon on the last episode of season two?
Have you played tennis with him since then?
Oh, no. I like to play tennis with people who are as good as me or better!
Ouch! You’ve said you’ll be at Bethenny Frankel’s wedding. Have you two grown closer as she and Jill Zarin have grown apart?
Yes. We’ve shared some emotional things about our fathers, and her being pregnant has definitely softened her. I’d say we’re a lot closer than we’ve been in the past.
