Vogue editor Anna Wintour made an interesting impression on the Late Show last night

Anna Wintour, Vogue‘s usually chilly editor-in-chief seemed pleasant, even diffident on the late-night show. She was promoting the documentary The September Issue which opens this week about the making of Vogue‘s 2008 September issue, the biggest in the magazine’s history. Only in a clip from the movie showing Anna icily browbeating an editor did she seem like the “nuclear Wintour” fashionistas both idolize and detest, often in equal parts.

Wintour came out wearing her trademark sunglasses but took them off to chat with Dave, poking a big of gentle fun at his socks and, even, at times, at herself. She quoted New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd who called her, in a review of the documentary, a “dominatrix “”The Sun King” “Cruella de Vil” and quoted Vogue‘s publisher who said Wintour’s ” not warm and friendly.”

  1. I think Anna Wintour, Vogue’s editor-in-chief, is awesome! She is good at what she does. She has a killer fashion sense. And she is powerful. ::inspiring::

Maybe the Wilhelmina Slater (Vanessa Williams) character from Ugly Betty was also inspired by Wintour

  2. I don’t know what to think. I think in such ladder climbing, a back stabbing, competitive work place like Vogue you probably have to come off as an umemotional bitch to ensure your staying power. Can you imagine how many people are vying for that job?
