The First Portrait of Princes Harry and William Unveiled
William and Harry posed for Nicky Philipps in her South Kensington studio in August 2008. It marked the first of five sitting over a span of six months.
Renowned artist Nicky Philipps unveiled the first double portrait of Princes William and Harry Wednesday morning at London’s National Portrait Gallery.
The painting features William in his star and sash of the Order of the Garter (since he is training to be a search and rescue pilot for the Royal Air Force), while Harry sports his Afghanistan campaign medal to represent his Army Air Corps helicopter pilot schooling.
Philipps wanted the portrait to be an even mixture of formal traditions and the more laidback manners of the 21st century, and described the depiction as “a behind the scenes glance at the human element of royal responsibility and to emphasize their brotherly relationship.” (Times Online)
