Betty on the News: Beyonce Being Sued Over Fragrance
Abercrombie & Fitch files suit against the singer for being a so-called copycat
“Crazy in Love” crooner Beyonce Knowles is in the midst of a bootylicious battle with retail chain Abercrombie & Fitch.
The company filed a federal lawsuit on Tuesday in Columbus, Ohio, claiming that a fragrance under the 28-year-old’s “Sasha Fierce” label “poses a likelihood of confusion” with the corporation’s own “Fierce” brand.
Beyonce intends to partner up with perfumers Coty inc. to begin selling a fragrance in 2010. Abercrombie is worried that the confusion could rob it of control over a trademark it has used since 2002, and maybe even effect sales.
However, on Wednesday Coty execs released a statement which revealed that the company has no intention of naming the future fragrance after Beyonce’s alter-ego, Sasha Fierce, meaning that Abercrombie is wasting its breath.
“The terms Fierce and Sasha Fierce are not being used as names of a Beyonce fragrance,” the statement read. The singer’s publicist, Alan Nierob, has also confirmed that. (Reuters)
