The woman who helped her estranged husband Brian David Mitchell kidnap a 14-year-old girl by knifepoint and stood by as he repeatedly raped her, has pleaded guilty to the 2002 kidnapping charge and publicly apologized to Elizabeth Smart in a deal with federal prosecutors.
“I am so sorry, Elizabeth, for all the pain and suffering I have caused you and your family,” said Wanda Eileen Barzee, 64. “It is my hope that you will be able to find it in your heart to forgive me.”
Smart, now 22 and reportedly preparing to go to Paris and serve at a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was not present at the time of Barzee’s apology.
Mitchell, Smart’s other kidnapper, is due back in court for a hearing on Nov. 30. (Fox News)
