Expectations for The Jay Leno Show may not be high over at NBC, but that doesn’t mean the network isn’t behind the comedian. In conjunction with the one-time Tonight Show host, the network is taking on a new approach to American broadcast TV: a prime-talk show, set to air 5 times a week at 10pm.
In a move that has drawn comparisons to The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Leno will be interviewing guests both in and out of the studio and utilizing celebrity “correspondents” who will deliver comedic reports from the field.
“NBC’s in fourth place. You can’t do any worse,” Leno said of his new “big tent” talk show.
Because the cost to produce a show like Leno’s is much less expensive than a scripted television series, it’s likely that other networks will follow suit if The Jay Leno Show proves to be a success, experts are predicting. (CNN)
