Betty on the News: Michelle Obama Talks About French Fries, Fashion and Family Time
The first lady loves greasy treats and expressing herself through fashion
In this month’s issue of Women’s Health, Michelle Obama dishes about French fries, accessorizing and spending time with the famous fam.
As a child the first lady loved hitting the local McDonald’s because it was such a treat to be able to eat out for once. Michelle grew up in a poor household and every once in a while her father would take his wife and children to the fast-food chain for some grub. And while one wouldn’t expect the woman with the rockin’ arms to chow down on greasy delights, Michelle still enjoys a hearty plate of fries from time to time.
“I do love a good burger and fries,” she confessed. “French fries are my favorite food in the whole world. If I could, I’d eat them at every meal – but I can’t. My whole thing is moderation. If I make good, healthy choices most of the time, then having what I love every once in a while won’t hurt.”
Thanks Michelle, you just gave us an excuse to pop over to McDonald’s!
Fast-food or not, the First Lady makes it a point to eat with her family each and every night. “Dad’s office is just downstairs, and it’s rare that we don’t have dinner together,” she told the publication. “No matter what’s going on, he sets aside that time. Dinner time is at 6:30 p.m., and he comes in, we sit down.”
If it wasn’t obvious before, Michelle also derives pleasure from expressing herself through fashion.
“For me fashion is fun, and it’s supposed to help you feel good about yourself,” she explained. “I think that’s what all women should focus on: what makes them happy and feel comfortable and beautiful. I wear what I love. Sometimes people like it, sometimes they don’t. I’m fine with that.”
A perfect attitude for a perfect lady. (People)
